Types of cystitis
Cystitis is defined as an inflammation of the bladder, often classified by characteristic symptoms of urinary urgency and frequency, as well as a stinging and burning sensation during urination. The most common cause of cystitis is a bacterial urinary tract infection (UTI), which can become a serious health problem if it spreads to the kidneys. The usual treatment for bacterial cystitis is
antibiotics.16–18
However, cystitis may also occur as a reaction to certain drugs, radiation therapy, chemical irritants, long-term use of a catheter or as a complication of another illness. Treatment for other types of cystitis depends on the underlying cause.16,18
